Submarine…

11:40 PM Posted in My life | No Comments »

There was delivered a U-boat tower to DORA1 here in Trondheim in February this year. The tower is from a Norwegian submarine named “KNM Ula”, built in 1965, changed name to “Kinn” in 1988, and ware chopped in 1998. KNM Ula was a submarine of the German type “207”, and in Norwegian “Kobben” class. Norway had in all 15 submarines from this class. In the periode 1985 to -93, the class was upgated and made longer. At the same time four bouts was sold to Denmark, three as operative bouts, and one a spear parts. The “Kobben” class was faced out of the Norwegian navy in 2001, and four bouts were given to Poland. Before they were handed over the submarines ware given a hall over and Polish personal war trained in Norway. In 2005 Poland was the only country in the world still using the “Kobben” class submarine!
The tower from “KNM Ula” will be restored and places on the seaside of DORA as a reminder of what DORA was built for!

A walk around Bialystok…

8:37 PM Posted in My life | No Comments »

Today I went over to Mark’s place to hang out and to check out a book he had got since last I was there! After a couple of house at he’s place we went down to PKS (the bus terminal) to purchase buss tickets for Me and Anja, who are leaving on the night bus to Warszawa tomorrow! The bus leaves at 00:55 from Bialystok and are in Warszaw at about 4 am. After we got the tickets we went over the street to McD to get some burgers. A funny thing I noticed today is that I never go to McD in Norway, and every time I go here in Bialystok, I go with Mark?!?! Well, to get home we just decided to take a walk! We went by the new Opera, which seems to be coming along, but I noticed that there were no workers or any equipment there?? Is there some financial difficulty or just a break in the building process? Don’t know, and really don’t care that much ;) . It was a nice walk and we got to see a outdoor pub who had put a kind of “arena” in front of a big TV screen, and at the university palace the military had some kind of initiation for new man power or something!

Lecture @ the hospital…

7:55 PM Posted in My life | No Comments »

The Medical university of Bialystok, English division, has this week visit from Professor Karl Oldhafer from Celle (Hannover), Germany. Professor Oldhafer is a general surgeon and is here to hold a series of lectures about abdominal surgery when he is here this week. On Monday he had a lecture on liver surgery, Tuesday was about the pancreas, and today he talked about transplantation surgery. All the lectures has been great so far! The professor is a great speaker and very good to explain if any body have questions. Tomorrow the lecture will be on laparoscopic surgery, and on Friday, surgical wound infection. I’m looking forward to the two last lectures and hope they are as good as the firs ones!

New mixer tap…

11:13 PM Posted in My life | No Comments »

The mixer tap in our bathtub has been leaking since we moved inn! But it has been a small hole, witch I could just fix with a pace of tape. I have been waiting and looking to see if the mixer tap I was looking to by would come on sale, but it haven’t seen it yet! But today when I was taking a shower, the tape fell off! The crack in the metal had become bigger, and the water flushed out! And to make thing worse, I didn’t notice it before I was finished, and by then there were water all over the bathroom floor! Well, to make a long story short… I had to go to the hardware store and bay a new mixer tap! Luckily I found a similar tap that I was looking for before, to a good prize!

Shazam ID – Part III…

I have been able to try Shazam ID some more now, and I’m getting more and more impressed. At first I was ony trying it on English artists, thinking that the database would only take them since the server is in England, but no! I tried bout an Indian song and a Polish song, and it worked bout times! This is a great little program!

Now, how to innstalle!

- You need a phone witch runs on a S60 system! If you aren’t sure about your phone, check the list HERE!

- Now you need to download the program to your pc! But you don’t want to download it from Shazam ID’s home page, but download it from HERE! You may need to use Internet explorer to download it! When I tried to download using Firefox, it just opened the file in the browser window instead! On the download page you see different phone models, but not all of them! My phone is a Nokia N82, witch is not on the list, but it runs on S60 software. I just downloaded from the N80 link, and it works great!

- Now you need to transfer the downloaded file to your phone! Use the method you want, Bluetooth, Ir or cable.

- Now, since this is a 30 day trail version (that works forever?) you need to change the date on your phone! Set it to January 1st 2008! After the installation you can change it back!

- Now run the file that you transferred to the phone, on the phone!

- Follow the instructions on your screen

- Congratulation! You now have the Shazam ID on your phone! It’s a great party trick to show your friends!

It is a while since I heard about a program like Shazam ID, but back then I didn’t give it another thought, but when I saw it on NRKBeta’s pages I waned to try it out! Shazam ID is a program made for mobile phones with S60 software! (Here you can see is your phone is a S60 phone), and its free, or they say you have a 30 day trail, but on NRKBetas page you can read (I know its in Norwegian! That’s why I’m writing it here ;) ) about people that have been using it for a long period of time now!

Here are two tests done by NRKBeta in Norway!

Test 1: In a noisy bar!

Test 2: In a taxi cab!

In Part III I will show how to innstall!

Shazam ID - Part I…

Have you ever heard that song on the radio that you couldn’t remember the name or the artist playing that song? Well, here is the program for you! Shazam ID. You install it on your mobile phone, and with the push of some buttons you get the information about witch song, artist and album! And it works great! It works like this:
You start the program, and press “Tag Now”! That was the “hard” part! Now the program does the rest! It samples about 10 seconds of the music, sends the sample, either via 3G/GPRS on your phone or through WLAN (if your phone has that) to a central database, and within you can react the answer is there on you screen!
I have put it trough two testes today, and it was no problem for Shazam ID.

Test 1: From the radio! I am playing Norwegian radio on my computer. I start Shazam ID on my phone, and record. Within seconds I have my answer!

Test 2: From my MP3 player! I start a song on my Ipod, set the ear peace to the mice on my phone, and let Shazam ID do its magic! And It works!

I will come back with another post about how to get it installed on your phone, and some other tests!
